For those of you familiar with Westcal Insulation, it’ll come as no surprise that we believe in investing in prevention and proactively working against potential problems and risk. It’s one of the reasons we’re proud to always work towards surpassing health and safety standards. We recently just completed our annual audit with COR, and we’d like to share why we feel COR is important.
What is COR?
The Canadian Federation of Construction Safety Association (FCASC, CFCSA) is always working towards making construction work safer for Canadian employees. Part of this goal was the creation of COR or The Certificate of Recognition program between 1999 and 2000. Simply put, COR is a combination of standards and audit elements that a construction team is expected to meet. These standards were chosen in order to prevent (or at least lower the risk) for incidents, accidents, and injuries. Meeting these conditions and being rewarded with a certificate means a company has reached the federal standard for health and safety concerns.
The Canadian Standard.
Across Canada, public and private project owners use COR as their standard. Companies who do not achieve COR are often not even considered for projects, and when you’re looking for a team to provide insulation for your project, COR needs to be among your qualifying considerations. After all, your people are some of your most important and expensive investments. You can’t have them working with a team who refuses to meet the national basic standards of health and safety.
When you’re choosing a team to work on your project, COR is just the bare minimum. It’s important to choose a company that respects workers and their safety. This because health and safety regulations don’t just save money they also save lives.
